Most preparedness content is written for a man who owns a gas mask and has opinions about calibers. He’s waiting for the collapse of society. You’re waiting for the power to come back on so the chest freezer stops being a countdown clock.
That’s who this site is for. The collapse of society is a great plot for a TV show. A thunderstorm that knocks out power for four days in July is a Tuesday.

If the last ice storm caught you with a dead phone, half a flashlight, and a sudden interest in how long milk lasts at room temperature, this is for you.
If your whole household runs on Wi-Fi and nobody knows what the backup plan is when it goes down, also you.
If you’ve ever broken down on the side of an interstate at night with a car full of kids and a trunk full of absolutely nothing useful, especially you.
You don’t need to be a veteran to read this. You don’t need to be paranoid either. You just need to have noticed that things break, and that they usually break at the worst possible moment.
Who’s Behind It
I’m a veteran. I spent my service keeping heavy equipment running, and most of my career since has been in the same line of work: figuring out why machines fail and how to keep them from failing again. It turns out that’s most of what preparedness is.
I’m not a former Navy SEAL. I’ve never been a Ranger. I’m a dad and a grandpa who got tired of being the guy in the family everyone calls when the lights go out, mostly because I wanted to be able to say “check the bin in the garage, it’s all in there.”
This site is that bin, written down.
What You’ll Find Here
Straight advice on the unglamorous stuff. Power outages that last longer than your patience. Losing internet when your entire life assumes you have it. Keeping in touch with family when the cell towers are overloaded. Weather that shows up earlier than forecast. Keeping a vehicle ready for the trip you planned and the one you didn’t.
Everything gets tested against one question: would a normal family actually do this? If the answer requires a second mortgage or a spare weekend every month, it doesn’t make the cut.
